2011’s most hard hitting film has to be Onir’s I AM. Four stories, each smartly interlinked by the characters, which all convey stories of real life issues occurring in modern day India. There is the desperate want-to-be mother, the politically stricken executive, the sexually confused filmmaker and the gay dude who gets a raw deal. Within the four narratives, a number of details about India, societal problems and sheer ignorance within the country are revealed. Onir does a superb job as a story-teller and executes each plot with complete knowledge. The star cast is one that cannot be ignored. 2011’s best.
