Personally, Social Media is just sheer keeping in touch for me. In fact, if Social Media had a tag line, it would be just that: "Keeping in touch". The reason that Facebook took off and is now the sensation that it is, is because it allowed people to connect with family and friends all over the globe. In fact, it also allowed a new level of networking to occur. Now, keeping in touch has never been easier.
Twitter, on the other hand, was even more innovative with its approach. With only 140 characters, we were forced to keep it concise. For me, Twitter is a form which really needs some taking used to. Unlike Facebook, it's not as easy but one you're sucked in, you're in for life.
However, both forms really help to allow to you to connect with the world using a platform. Hailing from a day and age where keeping in touch meant snail mail and expensive phone calls, Social Media has made connecting simple. But this cannot be possible without the god of Social Media: The Internet.
I am keen on witnessing how Social Media will change the future of the world and how it will advance the world of connecting.
